Whether it's the dead of winter or the midst of the summer months, facial hydration is essential to keeping our skin healthy and nourished. Using products that help with hydration inadvertently help our skin look more youthful, reduces skin texture and flakiness, limits the occurrence of breakouts, and gives us a healthy glow. Choosing the right products for our skin is essential, since it's our biggest organ after all; our skin absorbs everything we put on it. We should be mindful about the ingredients we use on our skin so it and the rest of our body doesn't suffer the harmful effects of those particular ingredients, which include parabens, phthalates, sulfates, silicones, fragrance, etc. After lots of research, I am confident I can recommend some of the best non toxic and natural moisturizers for everyone that are fit for every budget.
Here are the 7 best natural face moisturizers:
Cocokind
An affordable option that you can find at stores like Ulta and Target is the Cocokind Texture Smoothing Cream. It's made with squalane, a celery superseed complex, and tsubaki seed oil which aim to reduce the appearance of pores, keep moisture locked in, and nourish the skin from the fatty acids and antioxidants of the tsubaki oil. It's also vegan, cruelty-free, fragrance-free, and uses plant-based ingredients. Get it here for only $15.99!
Good Molecules
Another affordable option coming from one of my favorite skincare brands is the Good Molecules Lightweight Daily Moisturizer. It's free from fragrance, silicones, alcohols, PEGs, and mineral oils. The macadamia seed oil and shea butter nourish and plump the skin to reduce the appearance of fine lines and smooth skin texture. As well, it leaves a non-greasy finish on the skin and is perfect for layering under makeup. At only $12 for a tube, it's great deal!
Honest
Jessica Alba founded the Honest Company to make cleaner and more sustainable products, free from harmful chemicals that won't compromise our health or the efficacy of her products. Honest has banned over 3,500 ingredients form their products, which is great to see in a cleaner brand. Their Hydrogel Cream is not only EWG-verified, but free from parabens, fragrance, dyes, silicones, mineral oil, and petroleum. The gel formulation of this moisturizer is cooling and refreshing on the skin, and the use of squalane, jojoba, and hyaluronic acid help firm up the skin and lock in the moisture. At only $17, it's also an affordable option to try out!
Mad Hippie
Mad Hippie is a staple in the non toxic skincare world, and their Face Cream is no exception. All of their formulas are free from fragrances, phthalates, parabens, SLS, PEGs, and more, so you know you're safe when you use their products. The face cream is PACKED with skin-loving ingredients like niacinamide, acai, aloe vera, resveratrol, coconut oil, and argan oil; these all work together to reduce the signs of aging, nourish and smooth the skin, and provide a protective lipid barrier to keep the moisture in. I'd put this product in the mid-range price point, as it is $21 dollars for the 1-oz tube; it's not ultra high-end, but it's a little bit more money for the amount of product you get. With the quality of Mad Hippie products, however, I'd say it is worth it to give it a try!
BambuEarth
If you have acne-prone or oily skin, the BambuEarth Petitgrain Moisturizer is an excellent choice to add to your routine. Formulated with shea butter, jojoba, oil, sweet almond oil, and petitgrain oil, it helps to regulate sebum production (which can cause acne if there's too much sebum), improve the skin's elasticity, reduce the appearance of dark spots and blemishes, and even skin texture. A little of this product goes a long way, too, so you'll get your money's worth; it's about $29 for a 1.5-oz jar. It can be used both day and night, but it might be a little too greasy for the daytime, personally. I like going to bed with something ultra hydrating, though, so this is perfect! I wake up with smooth, soft, and glowy skin. Try it here!
Biossance
A more high-end option is the Biossance Squalane and Omega Repair Cream. Biossance is quite popular in the non toxic skincare realm, and for good reason. It's EWG-verified, and contains no PEGs, parabens, or fragrances. The addition of squalane helps penetrate deeper into the layers of the skin, which means more of your skin will be hydrated; it also makes other skincare actives, like vitamin C, hyaluronic acid, retinol, etc., more effective. It's also rich in lipids and ceramides, which help hydrate and plump the skin while preventing moisture loss. It costs $60 for the jar, but Biossance is a great, nontoxic brand that many, including myself, can vouch for the results. If you have the cash, give it a try here!
Ursa Major
Last but not least is the Ursa Major Golden Hour Recovery Cream. Inspired by the nature in Vermont, the founders wanted to create a clean, natural, and powerful skincare brand that used ingredients from nature. Their Golden Hour Recovery Cream uses sea buckthorn, calendula, and black currant to increase elasticity, firmness, and hydration to the skin while leaving it soft and supple. This gentle, water-based formula combats redness, uneven skin tone, and is great for eczema-prone skin. There's no synthetics, parabens, or artificial fragrances, and it's cruelty-free. It comes out to about $52, which is on the pricier side, but if you subscribe, you can save 10-15% and get it shipped to you every few months, which may be worth it in the long run.
